A long time ago, in a village near the forest, there lived a poor woodcutter and his wife. They had two children, Hansel and Gretel. The family was very poor and often had little to eat. One day, the woodcutter’s wife decided to take the children into the forest and leave them there, hoping someone would find them and give them a better life.

Hansel and Gretel overheard their parents’ plan and Hansel collected white pebbles to drop along the way to leave a trail back home. The next day, they were taken deep into the forest, and Hansel dropped the pebbles along the path. After their parents left, the children followed the trail of pebbles back home.

The following day, the wife tried again, but this time Hansel could not collect pebbles. Instead, he used breadcrumbs, but birds ate them, and Hansel and Gretel were lost. They wandered until they found a house made of candy.

Hungry and tired, they began to eat the house, only to be captured by a wicked witch. The witch planned to eat them, but Hansel and Gretel outsmarted her and escaped, returning home with treasures they found in the witch’s house.
